Life's Odyssey: Painting and Sculpture
Odysseus's ten-year journey from battle-ravaged Troy to his home in Ithaca has long been a metaphor for the trials of life. Grief or trauma, of any kind, a brush with death, can focus one's attention. For me, this occurred recently. In Life's Odyssey: Painting and Sculpture, I paint through the shifting emotions to come up with something on the canvas that expresses human transformation in times of turbulence. We all get knocked about by life at some stage. This exhibition is a depiction of the attempt to find beauty as we travel through the suffering of this world— through this turgid mortal coil. The works, painting and sculpture, each speak to the unknown: trouble on the high seas, the call of the sirens, and sailing through the fog of life's difficulties.

We’re pleased to open our exhibiting season with an exhibition that explores this special part of the world through the diverse impressions and interpretations of the Landscapes of the Southern Highlands. Our select group of artists will be offering a unique and evocative exploration through various mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, video and mixed media; considering what it truly means to capture the essence of a landscape.
