Christophe Domergue
Christophe Domergue is a Sydney based artist whose abstract, textural works uniquely capture ‘histories’ of site specific derelict spaces.
“I use thick, wet, malleable resin and pigments as a painting medium, physically lifting rich layers of urban environments, I call the process “Peeling”. More than just castings, Peelings are both additive and subtractive at the same time, Peelings extract stories, physically embedding and capturing histories from the surfaces of the places I Peel. I see the works as collaborations between myself and the urban environment; although I plan my compositions, I am always surprised when I “peel” the works to see what the site holds onto, and what it lets go of.”
Completing his Master of Art at UNSW, Sydney, Christophe has been a finalist in many art prizes such as the Dobell Drawing Prize, Fisher’s Ghost Art Award and Into The Light Art Prize.
